The route basics are quite simple, just head South.  For those detailed types, we will start in Los
Angeles California, head South to Baja California till it ends then hop on a ferry to Mazatlan.  Keep
heading south on the pacific side through main land Mexico, then Guatemala, El Salvador,
Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, then to the Caribbean coast of Panama.  From there we take
another ferry to Turbo, Colombia
.  The Darien gap is a land travel stopper, 100+ miles of essentially
impenetrable jungle between Panama and Colombia
--that's the reason for the ferry.  Once we
safely cross Colombia in about 5 days we will be heading down the west coast of Ecuador, Peru,
and then all of Chile.  If things are going well we will end up in Ushuai, Argentina after 13,000+ miles.
